Media stakeholders at the ongoing 14th Biennial Africast 2025 in Lagos State have called for the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern media practice.

Speaking during a panel discussion themed “AI Should Be Used in Our Own Context,” the Communications Manager of one of Nigeria’s flagship broadcast stations, Mrs. Victoria Ajayi, emphasised that ethical responsibility must guide the deployment of AI technologies in the media.

Mrs. Ajayi noted that while AI offers vast opportunities for efficiency and innovation, it must be applied in a way that aligns with local values, professional standards, and the integrity of journalism.

Another panelist and ICT Policy leader, Shola Taylor, noted that “AI has come to stay.”

He explained that the sooner everyone especially media professionals, comes to terms with this reality and begins to integrate AI into their work processes, the more efficient and seamless media operations will become.

However, Taylor emphasised the need for responsible use of AI, cautioning that technology should not completely replace human intellect and creativity in media practice

According to the CEO of Pinpoint Media Nigeria and UK, Chris Ihidero who spoke on the topic: “Need for collaboration to synergize the then and now of broadcasting”, said “Technology is not going back, it is progressing and advancing.

“Therefore “we must be on top of our game” by ensuring that we are moving with the trends,” he said.

One of the international exhibitors at the Africast 2025 event, Mr. Enrico Vaccari, Sales Manager of Axel Technologies, said the media organisations in Africa should adopt the use of sophisticated technical equipments in the dissemination of their duties.”
