The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have pledged to deepen collaboration in a bid to free Nigeria of corruption and reduce road carnage on the nation’s highways.

The two agencies also agreed to strengthen ties toward achieving the common objective of national safety and security.

These were the high points of discussion when the Zonal Commander, Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, Michael Nzekwe played host to the Sector Commander, FRSC, RS8.1 Kwara Command, Fredrick Ade Ogidan,  at the Commission’s Office, in Ilorin.

Speaking on the essence of the visit, CC Ogidan said that “it is important for agencies of government to work together to make Nigeria a better place for all.” Specifically, he said that “collaboration between EFCC and FRSC is very necessary as the task of restoring integrity to Nigeria through anti-graft war and bringing sanity to the nation’s roads rested on the two agencies.”

He noted that “one of the major problems facing the country is corruption” noting that “whoever that is not supporting the efforts being championed by the EFCC in riding the country of corruption is unpatriotic.”

The Sector Commander praised the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Commission for complying with safety rules and regulations. “I like to commend you on the invitation extended to us some weeks back to train your officers on basic safety rules and regulations on the highways. It is quite commendable! If there is any other area you need our support, our doors are always open for you”, he assured.

The FRSC boss also promised to support the anti-graft agency with intelligence adding that, “the corps has a strong database and an intelligence department that is of international standard.” According to him, “Collaboration should be all-inclusive because if we all come together to fight this monster called corruption, Nigeria will work and it will succeed”.

In his remark, Nzekwe who was visibly delighted over the visit commended the FRSC for always being supportive of the Commission over the years, and ensuring that desired success was achieved.

“We know the importance of the Federal Road Safety Corps in fighting corruption. It is an agency that we really need to partner with, to enable us to succeed. There are instances when we have had to fall back on Road Safety because they keep records of Nigerians, especially vehicle registration and issuance of drivers licence and these are information that often comes handy during the investigation”, he said.

Nzekwe enjoined the FRSC to continue to support the commission, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.

He promised to build more on the existing relationship with the  Corps particularly in the area of intelligence gathering and sharing.
