The Chairman of Anambra State Taskforce on Human Trafficking, Professor Sylvia Chika Ifemeje says members of the taskforce should adopt self-help measures in the execution of its programmes.
She said this during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka.
In her address, the state Commander, of National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related MattersĀ NAPTIP, Anambra State Mrs. Judith Chukwu Ibadin said that the task force would be divided into groups, enlightenment and publicity, prevention and prosecution among others, for the attainment of better results.
Prof lfemeje also said that the management committee of the task force would be inaugurated by next year to help facilitate the programmes of the group.
“Some persons will be approached to help the task force execute its activities, and specific projects like shelter and other essential areas that are required for interventions,” Ifemeje stated.
She revealed that efforts are ongoing to package the state taskforce work plan on Human Trafficking in a booklet form with the prefix of the state government.
Mrs. Ibadin expressed regrets that members of the state taskforce who were recently commended in Abuja for their work plan are now showing apathy towards the activities of the state taskforce.
She announced that further training of members of the Taskforce would be for only committed members.
“NAPTIP has acquired shelter at Udoka Housing Estate for rescued victims and suspects. With time these two categories of persons will not stay under one roof, the State NAPTIP has been involved in rescue operations, arrest of suspects, advocacy visits and prosecution of suspected criminals,” she noted.
