The Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approach towards mitigating security challenges in the country.
Chairman of the Agency, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, made the commendation at a press briefing organised to highlight the activities for the commemoration of 12th Shaikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo Week in Sokoto.
He urged citizens to continue to rally around the achievements recorded in addressing security challenges by supporting the government with relevant intelligence that would help sustain peace across Nigeria
While praising the government’s efforts to tackle security challenges, Maidoki expressed hope that more pragmatic measures would be adopted to curb the menace and secure all troubled parts of the country.
He appreciated the Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for its commitment to ensuring security in the state.
Maidoki also commended the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, describing it as a beacon of peace, religious tolerance, and social harmony in the country.
“His Eminence’s tireless efforts and constructive engagements with key stakeholders in peacebuilding — both Muslims and non-Muslims alike — for a peaceful Nigeria should not only be cherished and appreciated but also supported by all well-meaning citizens,” he said.
Maidoki extended condolences to the families of the fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defence of the nation, saying,
“We also commiserate with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other victims of criminal activities, especially armed banditry and kidnapping, as well as those affected by natural disasters such as flooding experienced in different parts of the country.”
According to Maidoki, the 12th Shaikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo Week, themed “Reviving Ethical Leadership and Social Harmony: Lessons from the Sokoto Leaders,” will hold from October 18 to November 2, 2025.
He explained that “the aim of the event is to examine the principles and methods of leadership and good governance employed by the Sokoto Jihad leaders in establishing a peaceful and prosperous society, and to highlight their relevance to today’s challenges of insecurity and economic hardship.”
Maidoki said; “This week-long programme serves as a reminder of the great legacies of Shaikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo and his disciples, whose teachings and leadership principles continue to offer valuable lessons for our times.
“It is our hope and prayer that through this event, our communities will gain deeper insights into the timeless wisdom of the Sokoto Jihad leaders, and that these lessons will inspire unity, peace, and prosperity in our society.”
