The Anambra State Director, of the Agency for Mass Literacy Adult and non-formal Education, Mrs Ebele Ononihu, said the agency is concerned about the comfort of the inmates, especially those qualified to take the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for junior secondary schools (JSS) in the state.
The Agency has donated items to Aguata and Nnewi correctional centres respectively, to provide comfort during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the state.
The items donated; through prison officials include reading tables and chairs, and instructional materials (pencil, pen, textbooks, exercise books, erasers).
“With these gift items, the inmates are assured of quality teaching and learning as well as comfortable sitting arrangements for the ongoing examination”.
According to her, they were at the centre also to convey approval for the centre to be used as an examination centres for BECE from the Commissioner Ministry of Basic Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-udeh.
Mrs Ononiuhu, said that they should rather continue to be good ambassadors of the Lord, while remaining penitent and seeking forgiveness, guidance and mercy from God, adding that their travail is temporary.
“We, therefore, promise to follow up on some of the identified needs of the Adult learners in the Correctional Centres”.
The Assistant Controllers Correctional (ACC), in charge of both centres, thanked the Commissioner, Ministry of Basic Education, Prof. Chuma udeh and the Director of Agency for Mass Literacy Adult and non-formal Education Mrs Ononihu, for their prompt response to the distress call from the Correctional centres, complaining the sorry state of classroom, reading and learning items in the centre before the intervention visit.
The auditor of the Agency, Emmanuel Okeke, and Education Officer Priscilla Mebuge, were present during the visit.
