Agro-Food Hub: Lagos Poultry Farmers Laud Goverment
The Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN, has commended the Lagos State Government for the unveiling of the agro-food hub in Lagos state, Southwestern, Nigeria to help farmers sell their produce.
The Chairman PAN, Lagos State chapter, Mr Mojeed Iyiola, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday in Lagos.
Iyiola, who appreciated the Lagos State Government for the kind gesture, said it would reduce the annual egg-glut.
“With respect to the recently constructed Agro-food Hub by the Lagos State Government to help move our produce, we are most grateful.
“We have been present at the market for three days now, and we have seen the patronage pick up day after day.
“PAN Lagos will be present at the market over the weekend also to sell our produce .
“This growing sales at the market is gradually helping us eliminate the problem of egg-glut in the sector.
“We really appreciate the LASG for this noble innovation to help the sector from the brink of collapse.
“We also hope the market will be replicated across the state,” Iyiola said.
On his part, Mr Godwin Egbebe, the PAN National Publicity Secretary, called on the government to replicate the market across the country and reduce congestion on access roads to the market.
“The recently opened agro-food hub by the state government is a great contribution to the entire agriculture sector.
“But it will have a greater impact on the sector’s value chains if the market is replicated across different local governments in the state.
“The government should also ensure access road to the market hub is cleared off traffic and miscreants if they want more people to patronise the market.
“This will help the efforts of the government in assisting farmers to sell their produce at affordable prices,” Egbebe said.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Dec. 17, unveiled a newly constructed mid-level food agro-hub at Idi-Oro in the Mushin area of the state.
The state government said the middle-level food agro-hub would see to the “food hub.”
The food Agro-hub is sitting on 6400 square meters of land, has adequate parking (3,017sqm) space to accommodate trailers and vehicles, and has centralised wet and dry storage areas for bulk buying.
