Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari made history on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, as the first wife of a President to be welcomed by the Senate.
She was at the Senate chambers to witness the laying of the Constitution Amendment Bill, especially as regards women’s participation in governance.

The First Lady was accompanied on the visit by the Minister of Women Affairs Mrs. Pullen Tallen; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed and some of her personal aides.
The House of Representatives received the report of its Special Committee on the Amendment of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
There are sixty-eight amendments being processed.

Major highlights of the report indicated provision for special seats for women in the National and State Assemblies, abrogation of State/Local Government Joint Account, Financial Independence to State Assemblies and Judiciary among others.
