‘Aiyetoro Town Season 2’ to Premiere on 22 June – Funke Akindele

Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele is set to unveil the long-awaited second season of Aiyetoro Town on Sunday, 22 June, five years after the debut of its first season.

Akindele announced the return of the popular series via her social media platforms, revealing that the new season will stream on FAANtv’s YouTube channel. She promised viewers a rich blend of comedy, drama, and valuable life lessons.

“Five years ago, we brought you Aiyetoro Town Season 1, and now we are back with Season 2,” she wrote.

“Get ready for laughter, drama, and, of course, life lessons. Aiyetoro Town Season 2 premieres on FAANtv’s YouTube channel on Sunday, June 22.

“A big thank you to my amazing cast and crew. Your dedication and talent made this story come alive. You all are the real MVPs.”

According to Akindele, the new season will uphold the legacy of the first, which won audiences over with its humour and relatable storytelling. She also expressed deep appreciation to the cast and crew for their hard work and unwavering commitment to the project.

Widely recognised by her iconic screen name Jenifa, Funke Akindele is a multifaceted Nigerian actress, filmmaker, director, producer, politician, and realtor. She rose to prominence with her breakout role in the 2008 film Jenifa, which earned her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

She reprised the character in the 2011 sequel The Return of Jenifa and later in the highly successful television series Jenifa’s Diary, which began airing in 2015. The series earned her Best Actress in a Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022, making her the most awarded actress in that category, with six AMVCAs to her name.

Beyond critical acclaim, Akindele has also achieved historic commercial success. Her blockbuster film Everybody Loves Jenifa grossed over ₦1 billion within just 19 days of release, accounting for 40 percent of December’s box office revenue. It eventually earned ₦1.6 billion, becoming the highest-grossing film in West Africa.
