Akwa Ibom Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Development

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to timely project delivery and sustainable development.

Presiding over the March Projects Delivery Meeting in Uyo, Governor Eno appreciated stakeholders for their continued support and highlighted 86 priority projects outside roads, hospitals, and schools.

He emphasised stronger collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies, directing the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to drive completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres.

Addressing the state’s electricity situation, the Governor outlined ongoing reforms and a roadmap for Akwa Ibom to take ownership of its power market, noting that “the current power situation is as a result of low power generation across the country,” while assuring that government is engaging relevant stakeholders for improved supply.

Following a presentation by the Agriculture and Food Security Committee, the Governor approved ₦2.5 billion for procurement of over 620,000 palm seedlings for distribution to registered farmers across the 31 Local Government Areas.

He stated “the initiative is aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and economic growth, adding that a formal launch will be held later.”

A total of 55 projects were reviewed with clear timelines and commissioning dates, including the Governor’s Office Annex, AKWA-GIS House, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hotel, Itam Industrial Park, and International Market, Ikot Ekpene, among others.

The Commissioner for Works Prof. Eno Ibanga presenting updates, disclosed that 10 roads spanning 58.5 kilometres have been completed and are ready for commissioning in May 2026.

Stakeholders, including State APC Chairman, Stephen Ntukekpo and former NDDC Managing Director Nsima Ekere  commended the administration’s financial discipline and urged sustained momentum.

Meanwhile, Governor Eno has inspected work progress at the Victor Attah International Airport.

He said ; “My assessment is that work is in progress. To open an airport, we need all of the details, and that is what we are doing now. We are moving, as you can see for yourself. The gaps that have been identified, we are closing them.

“Do not also forget that some of this equipment is coming in from outside the country. There are a few delays due to several factors, but generally, I can tell you we are on track,”
