Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a N1.8 billion contract for the construction of a packaged sewage system at the Liberty Free Zone in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State.

The approval followed a memo submitted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to the meeting of the Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo, who briefed the media after the meeting, said the ministry submitted the memo on behalf of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, which is a parastatal under his ministry as part of its responsibility of regulating and attracting foreign investments into Nigeria.

“To this end, we sought council’s approval for the award of contract for the construction of a packaged sewage system for the authority’s head office within the Liberty Free Zone in Akwa Ibom State in the sum of N1, 803, 556, 537.95, inclusive of 7.5 % VAT,” Adebayo stated.

He added that the completion period for the contract is 10 months and that it is without variation.
