The Al-Habbiyyah Islamic Society has urged women to engage in small businesses as a means of achieving self-reliance and supporting their families and communities.
Dr Rakiya Momo Abaji, Coordinator of the Just Foundation, made the call during a weekly Ramadan Tafsir programme titled “For Women by Women” held at the society’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr Momo said the programme goes beyond religious instruction, also providing practical guidance on entrepreneurship and highlighting the role of women in societal development. She emphasised that small business engagement can significantly improve women’s daily lives and enable them to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
“The weekly Tafsir, held every Saturday during Ramadan, is designed to build character, encourage positive attitudes, and help women make the most of this holy period. Today’s discussion focused on women’s empowerment and practical strategies for starting small businesses, enabling them to support their children, families, and spouses,” she said.
She added that the initiative also seeks to strengthen family and community relationships while helping women grow as individuals.

Mardiya Umar, another speaker at the programme, highlighted that women play a pivotal role in shaping society, and that economic empowerment is essential for them to make a lasting impact.
Umar noted that the Al-Habbiyyah Islamic Society encourages women to become role models by engaging in productive ventures and investing in personal development. “Empowering one woman often creates a ripple effect, positively influencing many others across communities, regardless of geographical, social, or racial differences,” she said.
