Aldo Taillieu Wins 2025 Tour du Rwanda

Belgian rider Aldo Taillieu clinched victory in the prologue of the 2025 Tour du Rwanda on Sunday, February 23. Racing for Lotto Dstny Devo Team, Taillieu dominated the 4.1 km individual time trial (ITT), which started at BK Arena and finished at Amahoro Stadium, clocking in at 3 minutes, 48.91 seconds. His teammate Milan Menten secured third place, while Fabien Doubey of TotalEnergies took second.

“I am very happy because it was only four minutes, so it wasn’t too complicated. I have a strong team, and I’m hopeful we will perform well in the days ahead,” Taillieu said.

The 2025 edition of the Tour du Rwanda welcomes back former champion Henok Mulubrhan, who claimed the overall title in 2023, along with stage winners Metkel Eyob and Itamar Einhorn of Israel Premier Tech. The eight-stage, 812-kilometer race features its longest leg from Rukomo to Kayonza, covering 158 kilometres.

Despite ongoing tensions in the region due to the M23 rebel group’s advance in eastern DRC, the race has proceeded without safety concerns. This year’s Tour du Rwanda holds added significance as it serves as a key preparation event ahead of the UCI World Road Championships in September.

The Tour du Rwanda is a cycling race started in 1988 and based in Rwanda. Until 2008, TOUR DU RWANDA was a regional cycling race that brought together Rwandans but also riders from neighbouring Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda, The race is a cycling stage race that is organized by the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY). The event has been part of the UCI Africa Tour as a category 2.1-rated event since 2009.
