Algerian Embassy Hosts 70th Anniversary of Glorious Revolution, National Day

The Algerian Embassy in Nigeria has marked a significant milestone on November 5th, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Glorious Revolution of November 1st, 1954, alongside Algeria’s 70th National Day.

The reception, held in Abuja, brought together representatives from various Nigerian institutions and ministries, as well as members of the diplomatic corps stationed in the Nigerian capital.

The event was a blend of culture, diplomacy, and camaraderie, as guests reflected on Algeria’s rich history, its journey to independence, and the bonds of friendship between Algeria and Nigeria.

The evening kicked off with the national anthems of both Algeria and Nigeria, followed by speeches from Hocine Mezoued, the Ambassador of Algeria to Nigeria, and Jane Adams, Director for North Africa at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Mezoued, in his speech highlighted the significance of this landmark date in Algeria’s glorious history, the accomplishments made since the country’s independence, and the promising future ahead, thanks to the wisdom and vision of His Excellency, President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,.

“Please, allow me to seize this opportunity to say few words about the relation existing between Algeria and Nigeria. Over sixty years, Algeria and Nigeria have same privileges, relationships at different levels and areas are specified by the legal consultations at the high level, at the political levels, and the density of the exchanges of impassive progressive delegation as well as the regularity of ratings of our different bilateral mechanism of cooperation.”

Mezoued, reflected on the Algeria-Nigeria relations, built on shared values, and marked by regular and ongoing consultations between the leaders of both countries at all levels on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

“The particularity of the relationship between Algeria and Nigeria lies on the fact that they are based on common values, commitment and determination of their respective political leadership to make the cooperation between our two countries an example for Africa.”

The Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria further outlined several areas of cooperation between the two nations, which, once fully realized, will strengthen their bilateral relationship, particularly in the economic sphere.

Speaking to the reporter of Voice of Nigeria, Ambassador Jane Adams highlighted the enduring partnership between Nigeria and Algeria, dating back to Algeria’s independence in 1962.

She underscored the shared African values of unity and peaceful coexistence that have been the foundation of their bilateral relations.

According to her, despite occasional divergent interests, both nations have consistently worked toward mutual goals, particularly in development and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Adams emphasized that Nigeria and Algeria remain committed to Africa’s unity, fostering a relationship that supports and strengthens each other, demonstrating the resilience of their longstanding partnership in an ever-evolving global landscape.

“Over the years, we have come a long way with Algeria since 1962, Nigeria and Algeria have continued share the African value in terms of unity and peaceful coexistence. Given our bilateral relation with Algeria, we have common goal in term of development and economic interactions between the two countries, and both countries believe in Africa’s unity. Even though, there might be divergent interest but Nigeria and Algeria have continued to maintain mutual interest that support one another.”

Furthemore, President of the Nigeria-Algeria Chamber of Commerce, Kabiru Ahmad, emphasized the historic and growing economic ties between the two nations.

Ahmad, noted, that the recent progress in formalizing business relations, particularly through the establishment of the Chamber, and noted that with Algeria’s new ambassador in place, cooperation in trade and transportation is set to accelerate.

He also pointed to the presence of Nigerian and Algerian products in each other’s markets and stressed the importance of adding value to exports.

Expressed optimism about future business collaborations and the potential for companies from both countries to expand their presence in each other’s markets, Ahmad said.

“So far, many Nigerian products can be found in parts of Algeria, and similarly, there are Algerian products in Nigeria. However, we aim to expand, formalize, and improve trade by adding value to some of these products, ensuring that those exporting them can earn more. It’s essential to enhance the value of exports to increase profitability. At the same time, we must evaluate the market to see where companies might establish themselves, either here or in Algeria. Everything is in the pipeline, but it will take time for both sides to come together and form the right teams to move business forward effectively.”

The significant presence of guests also served as a testament to the respect and admiration Algeria commands, not only in Africa but across the world.

Their participation in the event reinforced Algeria’s standing as a key player in international affairs, as well as the deep bonds of friendship it continues to nurture with Nigeria and other nations.

The reception was more than just a celebration, it was a reflection of Algeria’s growing influence and the strong alliances it continues to build on the global stage.

The National Day celebration of Algeria in Abuja was more than just a commemoration, it was a powerful testament to the enduring partnership between Algeria and Nigeria.

As the evening wrapped up, there was an undeniable feeling of optimism and unity in the space.
