Staff of  the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board ( JAMB)  in Osogbo, Osun State, have denied a trending allegation on social media about their refusal to print the UTME registration fee for candidates
The write up which has generated a lot of reactions on social media also alleged that some staff of the examination board refused to make printing papers available and were also collecting bribes before printing the slips.
Alleged write-up
The write-up  by one Lamina has parents and students urging the leadership of the JAMB to save them from missing their examination this year.
The post entitled:  “JAMB, Osun Branch is not doing well – the Registrar should act fast” alleged that, “Osun state branch of the JAMB at Agunbelewo area, Osogbo is stylistically spoiling the good image of the Registrar and dashing out the hope of common candidates in the state for refusing to give JAMB REG slip to many candidates.
“So unfortunate that the claim of the staff is that the Board does not have papers to print the JAMB REG for the candidates, ordinary paper . Chai! Meanwhile, they refuse to send the JAMB REG to the affected candidates via their emails. So what is the essence of requesting for candidates email and other contacts! However, according to some of the candiates who claim annonimty (sic), some staff are collecting (bribe) from candidates that are ready to comply. Many candidates have been going there for over 2 weeks, just because of the JAMB REG. This is so unfortunate, “Lamina said.
The post then asked JAMB officials to act fast before it is too late, saying many schools would close their portal soon, and this may cause candidates another one year to stay at home.
Voice of Nigeria Correspondent, Segun Adegoke reported that while  the Osun State Office  JAMB officials were not available for comments, candidates and parents disclaimed the allegations
False claim
Some of the staff at the Professional Test Center, Agunbelewo Osogbo affirmed that the event occurred on a particular day around 4.00pm when printing paper got exhausted and they appealed to the affected candidates to come the following day for their slips.
According to the staff, “the Reg Slip was printed the next day, and the process has been seamless since then. In addition to that, we told them they could still print their registration slip that would also be sent to their mail from the  JAMB head office via cyber cafe or any CBT centre close to them. Ours is to print slip. It is the duty of the headquarters in Abuja to send the slip to the mall. In fact, there is no cause for alarm, because, they will  later do a reprint of the Reg Slip, which will include the subjects, venue, date, and time of the examination.
Another staff member wondered why “such misleading and malicious write up could generate much attention when people could easily do their findings via phone calls or even from the candidates themselves.” I am sure the writer of the post is not a candidate. He only relied on hearsays. Whoever puts up or wrote that damaging piece didn’t do his investigation. The write-up is simply mischievous, “he said.
Random  sampling
A random sampling of students across the Osogbo metropolis showed that many  have their JAMB Registration Slips.
A few parents interviewed also confirmed their wards have the Registration Slips already.
All the prospective candidates interacted with across the state equally confirmed they have their JAMB Reg Slip. Virtually all the students that were interacted with at a JAMB Coaching Centre, Olaiya Junction, Osogbo said they have their Reg Slips.
In the same vein, an Osun-based journalist, Mr Shina Abubakar, said a relative of his in the State has her Reg Slip as well.
Seamless online process
Meanwhile, a JAMB candidate in Osogbo who registered in Lagos State, AbdusSamad AbdusSalaam posited that no students needs to go to JAMB office for any Registration Slip, except he lives nearby, since it could be printed in any cyber cafe.
He stated that the same slip in contention could be printed via an individual email account.
