Alleged Corruption: Ganduje’s trial continues even in absentia

A High Court sitting in Kano State North West Nigeria has ordered that the immediate past Governor of the state Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat, and few others be tried in court even in absentia on allegations of bribery and misappropriation of the state funds.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat Ganduje, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited are facing eight counts charge before the court in a case instituted by the Kano state Government.

Justice Amina Aliyu in a ruling dismissed the application of the state government seeking a bench warrant on the defendants.

The trial of the defendants continues even in their absentia” the Court held.

Justice Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the matter until Oct. 23, and 24, for a hearing of the preliminary objection and the main charge.

The court had on June 5, granted an order seeking to serve Ganduje and seven others through substituted service.
