The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman, in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abdullahi Adamu Candido has flagged off work for the provision of infrastructure in a section of Sabon-Lugbe, a suburb of Nigeria’s capital city.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in Sabon-Lugbe Tuesday, Candido extolled the benefits of such a partnership for the good of the people.
Candido noted that “As a government of the people, sensitive to the fulfilment of its mandate, it behoves on us the responsibility of meeting the needs and aspirations of all electorates within our jurisdiction.
“To enable residents to partake of the dividends of democracy and feel the impact of good governance in and around the room domains, providing access to basic infrastructure cannot be seen as a luxury but a necessity to make life easy for the people. It would also, in turn, motivate residents in carrying out their civic responsibilities in the governance system.”
The Chairman added that his commitment to this mandate made his government to execute many projects across the Council area, which has dedicated a major chunk of the Council’s yearly budget to infrastructure provision for the good of residents.
He also stated that it was a global practice, where cities were not built by governments alone, but through partnerships between the private and public sectors.
According to him, his administration was recording huge success because it decided to involve new ways of doing things differently from past AMAC administrations.
Candido also explained, “AMAC partnership with Riok Nigeria Limited in the PPP arrangement for the construing of acc press road along Voice Nigeria/Trade more Estate road from the end of Ecological project road to the end of AMAC layout with drainage and solar panel light is our questions to further expand infrastructure coverage to the nooks and crannies of the Council as this project would cover this zone of Lugbe District.”
We learnt that the asphalt road was constructed to provide access to Shalom Villa Estate, another PPP project between AMAC and Riok Nig. Ltd.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer, Riok Nig Ltd, Nicholas Ukachukwu, whose firm handled the construction of the seven-kilometre road, stated that his firm would soon deliver Shalom Villa Estate to the public.
Ukachukwu gave the assurance that all units in the soon to commence estate were affordable and designed to provide comfort to off-takers, adding that they were all in a duplex form, including one-bedroom flats, where bedrooms were upstairs, while living rooms, kitchen, dining and others down.
He also stated that compensation of original inhabitants hitherto living in the area had been settled after due evaluation of the property.
