The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has performed the ground breaking ceremony to mark the commencement for the rehabilitation of Gosa township road in the Council.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Gosa road project, Maikalangu said that, as a responsible government that adheres to the yearnings of the people, it is the responsibility of his administration to meet the needs and aspirations of the electorate, adding that AMAC residents will enjoy dividends of democracy and feel the impact of good governance within their various communities.
He said: “I am very glad to be here this morning to perform this ground breaking ceremony as we flag off the commencement of the construction of the Gosa township road along the Airport Road axis of the Council.
“In line with our vision and passion for my dear people of AMAC, I will continue to say it again that bringing rural renewal project, such as this, to our communities will enable residents to enjoy the dividends of democracy and feel the impact of good governance and prosperity, which we are committed to promote.
“I wish to emphasise here that this project conforms with the campaign promises we made before our election. We promise development, development and more development across the 12 electoral wards of the Council in the best interest of the people.
“I recall that during my election, I promised to run an open and inclusive government; an administration where citizens are entitled to contribute especially on areas of deciding on the type and form of projects they desire.
“In that regard, most of the projects we celebrate today, especially road construction, falls within the preferences of the largely disadvantaged rural communities.”
He said his administration will focus on roads construction and rehabilitation, provision of rural electrification, water, educational development, among others.
“It may interest you to note that as part of the roads revolution we are celebrating today, we can boast to have provided over ten (10) asphalt legacy roads across the three zones of the 12 political wards of the Area Council, all ready for commissioning.
“They include: the construction of roads within Kpegyi community; Damagaza Village; Wumba village, and Gwagwa (by Police Station). In addition, we have fully completed the Dutsen-Garki; Jikwoyi, Unguwan Sarki access road (Orozo), Mabushi ongoing access road, as well as the Iddo-Sarki access road project not far from here.
“Similarly, about six (6) on-going road projects across the Area Council to add to the one we are about to commence today.
“We are here to serve the people and we will leave no stone unturned until we make positive impact in the life our tenure.”
Speaking earlier, the Supervisory Councilor for Works, Hon. Dantani Zaudna, said the road is 1.4 kilometers in length and will help to encourage economic development of the community.
“We thank the community for their cooperation as they removed some obstructions that would have impeded the road project. The road will be asphalted with drainages. The road project will attract economic development as it will boost the economy of the community. Many people will definitely rent houses here because it is very close to the airport.”
While showing his appreciation, the Hakimi of Gosa, Hakimi Ishaku Nana, said that Maikalangu is a man who lives up to his words as he fulfilled his promise of rehabilitating the road just few weeks after visiting the community.
“We are very glad for this rehabilitation project that was commenced by the Executive Chairman of AMAC. Some few weeks ago, the chairman visited us and promised to rehabilitate the road. Today, it is a reality. We are all very happy for this project. God will continue to bless him,” he said.
Similarly, a member of the community, Michael Musa, who represented the youth leader, Matthew Tatari, said the Chairman has been doing a lot for the community, but that more is needed, especially the inclusion of more youths in his administration.
He said: “We are very grateful to the Executive Chairman of AMAC for always remembering AMAC in his numerous projects. This is not the first project he will be executing in this community. He installed solar street lights for us, thereby turning this community to a town.”
Highlight of the event was dance performance by the Gbagyi-Zanu women cultural troupe in Gosa.
