The Social Democratic Party(SDP) has elected Chief Edward Ekelem, as its standard bearer for November 6th gubernatorial election in the state.

He polled one hundred and eleven votes out of one hundred and fourteen valid votes cast to be declared winner as the only contestant during the party’s primary election held in Awka.

Announcing the result of the election, Chairman of the primary election committee, Maggie Mariam Batubo, said the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with the INEC guidelines and party’s constitution.

In his postelection speech, Chief Ekenem said the outcome of the election was the beginning of the journey for the party to take over power in the state and capture the remaining four states in south east.

He added that he has a blueprint to aggressively tackle infrastructural deficits in the state and revolutionize agriculture for massive food production if elected into office.

Earlier, State Chairman of SDP, Dr Webster Okonkwo, explained that the party was moving to change the nation’s narrative starting from Anambra State Gubernatorial polls.

While describing the election as peaceful and orderly, he said “they have elected a competent technocrat with capacity to transform the state”.
