The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the reappointment of Mr Okechukwu Nwobi as the Acting Clerk of the house and the reappointment for another three months of the transition Committee (TC) Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and their councillors.

This is in line with section 208 of the Local Government Law 1999 as amended and as requested by the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in his letter to the Assembly for consideration for the re-appointment as Caretaker Committee Chairmen into the local government areas of the state.

The Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo constituency, Ikenna Ofodeme moved a motion for their consideration and
confirmation and was seconded by Mr Golden Iloh of Ihiala 2 constituency.

The House renewed their tenure during Thursday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze and was supported by the lawmakers through a voice vote.

The Speaker while congratulating the TC Chairmen, urged them to double their efforts towards making sure that the vision and mission of Governor Soludo is achieved.

I urge you all to remain focused. It is very essential for you all to face your duties and avoid areas of conflict.

“We all are playing towards one goal post and as such, you as TC Chairmen and Councillors should localize all the agenda of Governor Soludo down to the grassroots.

“Those at the villages should feel the agenda of the Governor, partner with stakeholders and let development start from various communities. It is the duty of your office to do so.

“The state government cannot do everything and there is a need for community and stakeholder participation.

“I encourage you all to work hard in the next three months and make a meaningful impact,” the speaker said.

In a vote of thanks, the TC Chairman of Ayamelum Mr Livinus Onyeweife appreciated the house for extending their tenure. He assured them that they would do everything within their powers to attract the dividends of democracy down to the grassroots. He also promised that they would live up to the expectations of the Governor and that of the 8th assembly.
