A Chieftain of the nation’s main opposition political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, says the level of infrastructure development 30 years after the creation of the state is not a reflection of the hopes and aspirations of its citizens.

Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the state capital, Dr Okwenna reasoned that there is no substantial evidence to prove that the state has moved forward when compared with states created at the same time.

Though he acknowledged that some past governors of the state fared well in the area of infrastructure development, he quickly noted that it was not enough for the status of the state.

Dr Okwenna, a former Gubernatorial Aspirant of the PDP in the just concluded primary election, wondered why due attention was not given to the developmental needs of Awka, the state capital, as it lacked basic infrastructure including a befitting Government House.

On the fate of his party in the forthcoming election, he said all was working well for the victory of its candidate, Chief Valentine Ozigbo, during the poll.

While describing the PDP’s chances as bright given the massive support being enjoyed in the state, he noted that in no distant time the issue of litigation currently rocking the party would be over.

He attributed the spate of legal fireworks and litigations that ensued during and after the party’s primary election in the state to the handiwork of some political jobbers who were bent on sabotaging the effort of the party.

Anambra State was created on 27th August 1991 by the then Military Head of State, Rtd Gen Ibrahim Babangida.
