Anambra State’s Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Pauly Onyeka, has asserted that the roads constructed during Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration are designed to endure 20 years without the need for maintenance.

Additionally, he highlighted the construction of an innovative amphitheater at the new Governor’s Lodge, which will mark a first in Nigeria’s architectural landscape.

During a recent press conference in Awka, Onyeka praised Governor Soludo for his transformative initiatives that promote multi-sectoral development across the state.

He shared a comprehensive overview of the administration’s ambitious programs while emphasizing that the strategies employed are inclusive, strategic, and sustainable, ultimately aiming to uplift the entirety of Anambra State.

Onyeka revealed plans for the new government house (Governor’s Lodge), a long-overdue project spanning 22.8 hectares. “This facility which is under construction when completed soon, is expected to provide state-of-the-art amenities, positioning it as a model of modern governance not just in Anambra, but across Africa. We are a service ministry dedicated to building for every Ministry, Department, and Agency (MDA),” he noted.

Also,he said that the planned orchard will significantly boost the state’s revenue.

The Commissioner also emphasized the foundational documents guiding the Soludo administration, including the ‘People’s Manifesto,’ the 2017 Transition Committee Report and Anambra Vision 2070.

These documents are pivotal in shaping a framework that ensures comprehensive attention and resource allocation across all governance sectors.

In addressing infrastructure development, Onyeka highlighted current road projects that enhance connectivity throughout Anambra.

Notably, the Amansea to Ebenebe road initiative has not only elevated land values but is also stimulating real estate investments, contributing to the alleviation of housing deficits and reducing rental costs.

Taking pride in the administration’s achievements, Onyeka reported that over 480 kilometers of roads are currently under construction, with approximately 300 kilometers already completed.

He reassured residents that these roads are engineered for longevity, necessitating minimal maintenance for at least 20 years, a testament to the administration’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure.

While the government invests substantially in infrastructure, Onyeka asserted that it intends to cultivate an environment conducive to private sector participation rather than supplanting real estate developers.

The administration aims to create essential infrastructure that encourages economic growth and facilitates low-cost housing through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).

Addressing the pressing issue of building collapses in the state, Onyeka attributed these incidents primarily to non-compliance with building regulations. He emphasized the need for adherence to building codes to ensure safety, announcing plans for a dedicated Building Control Agency that will oversee construction projects and enforce compliance.

In terms of security and social welfare, Onyeka commended Governor Soludo’s commitment to enhancing safety across the state through significant investments in surveillance and technology.

He stated that a secure environment is pivotal for economic advancement and elaborated on the establishment of security bases in strategic areas to bolster safety measures.

The commissioner also outlined key initiatives in the health sector, including the renovation of major hospitals into referral centers and the construction of a new Trauma Center.

He reiterated the administration’s intention to elevate Anambra’s healthcare standards, while also touching on ongoing advancements in education and tourism infrastructure as part of a broader holistic strategy for the state’s development.
