Anambra, Enugu States Agree On Local Solutions To Boundary Disputes

The interstate boundary committee set up to resolve the dispute between Anambra and Enugu States In Southeast Nigeria, has resolved to use a home grown approached in settling the boundary differences between the two states.

This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of a meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

The communique was signed by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Gilbert Ibezim and the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Ifanyi Ossai as well as the Director-General, National Boundary Commission Survey, Adamu Adaji.

They agreed that the home grown solution is that both state carrying out a detailed survey of the boundary corridor in the outstanding grey sector be applied in resolving the boundary disputes in march 2024.

The resolution also involved the two State holding bilateral engagement to discussed the outcome of the use of formula in April, 2024 to harmonise views and Agreement with the common boundary line.

The both states also agreed to have the political will in solving the crisis for development to strive in the two states.

The Communique said; “that the state has resolved to muster the political will to the End the boundary dispute without further delay.”

The Anambra/Enugu interstate boundary is approximately 135km in length.

The National Boundary Commission and the two states of Anambra and Enugu over the years had carried out several meeting to resolved the boundary crisis.
