Anambra first lady calls for Welfare Of Visually Impaired People

The Wife of Anambra State Governor and founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo has called on Nigerians to prioritise the welfare  of people with visual impairments. Mrs Soludo stated this while receiving a team from the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), and the Nigerian Association of the Blind, Anambra State Chapter at the Governor’s Lodge, Awawbia, Awka the state capital.

The group was on a courtesy visit to the governor’s wife ahead of White Cane Campaign which is scheduled for October 14, 2023 to commemorate World Sight Day.

 

Addressing the team, Mrs Soludo said that it is important to increase awareness on the need to protect those with disabilities, including giving them easy access to social and economic opportunities. She explained that it is also paramount for people to always lend a hand to those with disabilities, as well as understand the common needs of those in that circle.

 

The governors wife while pledging that her NGO will partner the group to promote the essence of the event in Anambra State, stated that people living with visual impairments are also humans with abundance of potential.

 

Earlier, the Managing Director of ANSAA, Mr Tony Ujubuonu, said that sixty instructive stands have already been produced to be placed on strategic points across the state ahead of the event, with the aim of teaching people the importance of giving help to those with visual challenges. He said that ANSAA’s involvement in the programme is part of its corporate social responsibility, and also a way to promote the intrinsic goals of the agency.

 

On his part, the Anambra State Chairman of Association of the Blind, Mr Enerst Okamelu commended the responsiveness of the present administration in the state to the welfare of those with disabilities.

 

He said that the White Cane Campaign will help to advance the movement to give equal opportunities to the disability community, and raise awareness on the need to assist persons with visual impairments.
