Speaking during the program at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka on Thursday, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of routine medical checks to prevent health complications and fatalities.

“Health is the greatest wealth you can have,” she stated. “Do not take your health for granted. I urge you to take advantage of the free cervical and breast cancer screenings organized by Healthy Living Initiative to know your status. Our mothers should also protect the health of their children through immunization and exclusive breastfeeding.”

Mrs. Soludo highlighted the comprehensive services available to women attending the event, which included screenings for cervical and breast cancers. “Our goal is to foster awareness about the significance of maintaining good health in all aspects of life,” she added.

“The welfare of our women is a priority for this administration. My husband, the Governor, understands this deeply, and we will continue to explore every opportunity to ensure that Anambra women are active beneficiaries of good governance.”

She also urged women to prioritize their health by choosing natural foods and vegetables, encouraging them to establish personal gardens to cultivate healthy produce.

Dr. Afam Obidike, Anambra’s Commissioner for Health, commended Mrs. Soludo for her commitment to women’s health through health awareness initiatives and free cancer screenings.

Dr. Amaka Anibogu, who spoke on breast cancer, warned that the disease involves abnormal cell growth in the breast, which can lead to tumors. “If left unchecked, these tumors can spread throughout the body and become fatal,” she stated.

She outlined several risk factors for breast cancer, including age, obesity, alcohol use, family history, and reproductive history. It’s critical for women, especially those over 40, to engage in regular self-exams to detect any unusual lumps.

Dr. Anibogu explained various treatment options depending on the cancer’s stage, emphasizing that early intervention significantly improves treatment outcomes. Recommended treatments include surgery, radiation therapy, and medications to manage and eliminate cancer cells.

Other speakers advised the women
to always follow preventive measures when dealing with health issues, especially breast cancer.

Beneficiaries of the program expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Soludo for her generous initiative, which included tests for HIV status, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index, as well as cervical and breast cancer screenings.
