The Anambra State Government has expressed its profound concern over the wretched state of federal roads within its jurisdiction. The government cannot idly stand by and watch as the citizenry suffers due to the poor condition of these roads.

The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, made this known while shedding light on the various interventions currently underway on several federal roads throughout the state.

Engineer Okoma revealed that despite having written multiple letters alerting the federal government to this pressing issue, no response or action seems forthcoming. Rather than needlessly endangering road users in Anambra, it was decided that palliative works would be carried out on these roads instead.

Speaking further, Engineer Okoma said that entrance into the state from Enugu state was in a very bad state, until the Governor mandated his ministry to fix it, expressing happiness that the Gariki axis of Amansea through Amansea-Awka old road, Agu Awka junction by Eze-Uzu as well as Amawbia under Flyover are now very motorable.

The commissioner also disclosed that the Minister of Works will soon visit Anambra state to see and fully intervene in the state of Oba and Ozubulu Onitsha -Owerri road, where Anambra state government is already intervening but cannot fund full reconstruction of the road because of the huge money involved.
