The Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike says the state government will continue to develop the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital(COOUTH), Amaku Awka, both in infrastructure and efficient service delivery.
Dr. Obidike made this known when officials of West African College of Surgeons visited the hospital, for an inspection geared towards accreditation.
He said that, the visit was a good one as it helps in the training of doctors in various areas of specializations, commended the Chief Medical Director of the hospital for his doggedness in bringing the accreditation team to the hospital.
Commissioner Obidike revealed that the Soludo administration is determined to transforming the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in both infrastructure, human resource development and efficient service delivery at all times.
The leader of the team, Professor Clement Osihmen from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital pointed out that, “They do the accreditation visitation regularly in all teaching hospitals in order to look at their facilities on ground and as well ensure that the facilities are working optimally with regards to training of resident doctors, even as it is clear that the visit was not to witch-hunt anybody under any guise.”
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Joe Akabuike maintained that they have secured five accreditations in various fields and that he is optimistic that the hospital will be found worthy to get full accreditation.
In the same vain, members of the Family Health International (FHI) have also visited the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Dr Akabuike where they cross-fertilize ideas on how to improve partnerships for enhanced healthcare delivery, particularly as it concerns HIV/AIDS and other viral disease.
