Anambra Governor Advocates for Enthronement of True Democratic Society

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has urged the Nigeria and the entire African continent to work together to establish a true democratic, secure, prosperous, and united society.

The Governor made the call during the thirteenth edition of the Zik Annual Lecture Series held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the state capital.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Governor Soludo emphasized the need for African leaders to make the dreams of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe a reality. He highlighted the importance of good governance and unity in building a better future for the continent.

The Chairman of the occasion and Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, praised the unforgettable legacies of late Dr. Azikiwe, describing him as a champion of African emancipation. He called on the current leaders to learn from Dr. Azikiwe’s selfless dedication to humanity.

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Bernard Odoh, reiterated Dr. Azikiwe’s role in Nigeria’s independence and his significant impact as a Pan-Africanist. He pledged to continue supporting the lecture series to honor Dr. Azikiwe and his legacy.

The guest lecturer, African Union High Representative, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, urged African leaders to emulate Dr. Azikiwe’s sacrificial life to maintain his legacy and accelerate the development of African nations. He emphasized the role Dr. Azikiwe played in liberating Nigeria and other African nations from colonialism.

Senator Ben Ndiobi, the benefactor of Zik’s lecture series, highlighted the importance of keeping Dr. Azikiwe’s legacy alive. He praised Dr. Azikiwe as a great leader and teacher who mentored many future leaders.

Professor Uche Azikiwe, the wife of Dr. Azikiwe, called for African leaders to unite and form a strong United States of Africa, a vision her husband fought for. She emphasized the importance of advancing the development of the continent through unity and collaboration among African nations.

The event culminated in a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Uche Ebeze, who praised the lecture series as a pivotal contribution to the socioeconomic advancement of the African continent. Ebeze added, “With discussions centered on unity and developmental strategies, the Zik’s Annual Lecture Series aims to inspire leaders and uphold the transformative legacies of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.”
