The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has assured corp members deployed to the state by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of the provision of adequate security and welfare support
Governor Soludo who was represented by his chief of staff, Ernest Ezeajughi, made the statement during the official opening of 2023 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course and swearing-in ceremony of Corps members, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awka, Anambra state.
He stated that the government would explore opportunities for skills acquisition, entrepreneurship training and empowerment programmes, to enhance the self-reliance of corps members after their service year.
The Governor therefore urged the corps members to embrace the core values of NYSC which include discipline, integrity, teamwork, patriotism and tolerance and expressed appreciation to NYSC stakeholders for their support and collaboration to ensure the success of the scheme in Anambra state, adding that it has, over the years, been instrumental in promoting unity, cultural integration and national development.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma noted that the purpose of the orientation course was to properly introduce and acquaint the corps members with the ideals and objectives of the NYSC programme and also an opportunity for them to learn important skills.
The Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth Development Anambra state, Mr Patrick Aghamba, reminded the corps members that the orientation course is to equip them physically and mentally to face the challenges they may encounter while carrying out the mandatory one-year service to their father land, urging them to participate actively in all the trainings.
Corp Members Deployed To Abia
Meanwhile, the NYSC has said that Prospective Corps Members from Osun State arrived Abia State, South-eastern part of the country safely for the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Camp for their service year.
The Director, Press and Public Relations of NYSC Mr. Eddy Megwa stated this in a statement while reacting to an online information claiming that some Prospective Corps Members from Osun State deployed to Abia State for their National Service were stranded on their way to the Orientation Camp.
Mr. Megwa said that“To put the record straight, the intervention of NYSC and the Nigeria Army has enabled the affected 16 Prospective Corps Members to arrive the NYSC Abia State Orientation Camp in Umunna, safely, and they have been participating actively in the various camp activities.
NYSC Management is using this medium to appeal to members of the public, especially transporters to always accord due priority to Corps Members, who are on National Assignment in States outside their respective States of origin”, he said.
He called on the general public especially parents and other NYSC stakeholders to disregard the story making rounds in the social media on this issue as it is intended to cause unnecessary apprehension.
The management of the Scheme also urged stakeholders to provide the enabling environment for the Corps Members to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of their host communities.
