Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has commissioned a renovated health facility and a 4.2-kilometre road in the Igbo-Ukwu community of Aguata Local Government Area, where residents also presented a ₦50 million cheque in support of his administration.

The visit, marked by a wave of community endorsement, featured project inaugurations and a rally backing Soludo’s re-election bid.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, described the event as a celebration of developmental strides and a reaffirmation of the bond between the Soludo administration and the people of Igbo-Ukwu.

Governor Soludo began with the commissioning of the newly renovated Primary Health Centre in Obiuno, refurbished by a philanthropic family and handed over to the state government. He renamed it the “Comprehensive Medical Centre” and announced the deployment of medical personnel to provide quality healthcare, including free antenatal and delivery services.

“This centre is a shining example of private-public-community partnership,” Soludo said. “Together, we can achieve more for our people.”

The governor also inaugurated a 4.2-kilometre road facilitated by Hon. Dom Okafor, Member representing Aguata Federal Constituency. The road is expected to boost local mobility and drive economic activities.

A rally at Central School, Igbo-Ukwu, formed the climax of the day’s events, as residents pledged support for Governor Soludo and Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim ahead of the 2025 governorship election.

Amid chants and cultural performances, Soludo announced the redesign of the iconic Igbo-Ukwu Museum, home to the ancient Igbo-Ukwu bronzes.

“We are reinvigorating our heritage so that it shines brighter for future generations,” he said.

He also highlighted the completion of the Igbo-Ukwu Light House — a project that had stalled for 34 years — now serving as a centre for preserving historical artefacts and promoting cultural identity.

In a symbolic endorsement, the Igbo-Ukwu community presented a ₦50 million cheque to Governor Soludo as an expression of trust in his leadership and commitment to the state’s progress.

The governor also used the platform to campaign for Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial bye-election.

He was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff Ernest Ezeajughi, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and support groups.

Earlier at the rally, community leaders including Barth Nwibe, Dr Greg Ezeilo, Charles Ezeanaekwe, Hon. Dom Okafor, and Sir MCK Ubah praised Soludo’s achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic reform, noting that the community had experienced “meaningful and measurable progress” under his administration.
