Anambra Governor Inaugurates New LG Chairmen Champions Grassroots Development

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen and their deputies from the 21 local government areas of the state, emphasising the importance of grassroots development to his administration.

 

The ceremony took place at the Executive Chambers of the Government House in Awka, where the Governor administered the oaths of office to the newly elected officials.

 

Among those sworn in were Chibueze Ofobuike (Aguata), Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West), Romanus Ibekwe (Anaocha), ThankGod Anago (Awka North), Chinedu Okafor (Awka South), and Alphonsus Ofumelu (Ayamelum). Other notable appointees include Chijioke Ozumba (Dunukofia), Chimezie Obi (Ekwusigo), Stanley Nkwoka (Idemili North), Amaka Obi (Idemili South), Anayo Orjiako (Ihiala), Chinedu Ononiba (Njikoka), Echezona Anazodo (Nnewi North), and Chinedu Ezeogidi (Nnewi South). Franklin Nwadialu (Ogbaru), Anthony Nwaora (Onitsha North), Emeka Orji (Onitsha South), Casmir Nwafor (Orumba North), Shedrack Azubuike (Orumba South), and Emma Nweke (Oyi) were also sworn in.

Agents of positive change
In his address, Governor Soludo underscored the pivotal role of local government in fostering community development. “Congratulations on your electoral victories. The people of Anambra have placed their trust in you under the platform of APGA,” he stated. “As you transition from politics to governance, remember that your mandate is to be agents of positive change.”

 

The Governor elaborated on his vision for collaborative development, urging the newly installed chairmen to work closely with the state government to advance the welfare and security of the Anambra populace. “Welcome to Project Anambra. We will work together to achieve our common goals; the clock is now ticking,” he said, wishing them a successful tenure.

 

Soludo also stressed the need for youth empowerment initiatives to combat unemployment and promote poverty eradication. He implored the chairmen to view their oaths as sacred commitments, serving the public selflessly and adhering to state laws.

 

“The documents you hold affirm your positions as Mayors and Deputy Mayors. Serve diligently and take your duties seriously,” he advised.

 

The Governor reassured the chairmen of his administration’s ongoing support for local councils to facilitate rapid project implementation across the state.

 

The newly sworn-in Mayor of Ekwusigo LGA,  Mr Chimezie Obi expressed gratitude to Soludo for his leadership and commitment to grassroots development, pledging the support of all local government mayors to collaborate with the state government in developing and achieving the set goals.

The event, which highlighted Governor Soludo’s commitment to nurturing development at the grassroots, saw significant emphasis on transparency and accountability in governance. It is anticipated that the council chairmen will heed his counsel and diligently strive to enhance the lives of their constituents.

 

Among the attendees were Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Head of Service Barr. Theodora Igwegbe, Principal Secretary to the Governor Barr. Joachin Anaeto, Chief of Staff Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, as well as other members of the State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne.
