The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has expressed optimism about his chances in the election, voicing faith in God and in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver a transparent and credible outcome.
Ukachukwu, who cast his ballot at Polling Units 002, 011, and 012 in Osumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, said he was proud to fulfil his civic responsibility — not just as a political contender, but as a citizen dedicated to the state’s progress.
“It feels good to be part of the process that will move our state forward, not because I am contesting, but because I am an Anambra citizen,” Ukachukwu told reporters after voting on Saturday.
While commending the general conduct of the exercise, the APC candidate expressed concern over reports of alleged vote buying.
“I was informed that some candidates were involved in it. I call on the security agencies to live up to expectations,” he said.
Meanwhile, at Dimala Village in Osumenyi Town, voters described the process as peaceful and well-organised.
Mr. Godwin Ubabunike called for improved accessibility at polling centres. He explained that he had to be physically lifted to the voting point due to the absence of ramps.
“People had to lift me up to vote. INEC should provide proper access for people like us,” he appealed.
Across several polling units visited by Voice of Nigeria, voting was observed to be largely calm and orderly, with a significant voter turnout marking the day’s exercise.
