The commissioner made the call during his unannounced visit to Ogidi and Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospitals in the state. Ogidi General hospital is in Idemili North Local Government Area, while Enugwu-Ukwu General hospital is in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Dr. Obidike said the unannounced visit offered him the opportunity to ascertain the commitment of health workers especially during this festive period.

“I must tell you that I am totally disappointed with the whole staff members of Ogidi General hospital and not withstanding that I met them at their duty Post. This place does not look like hospital, every where is scattered as if there’s no human being working here,” he said.

The Commissioner explained that the Gov. Charles Soludo’s led administration committed huge resources in repositioning all the healthcare centres across the state.

“It is on record that when we assumed office our 19 General Hospitals lacked medical doctors but currently they now boost of Medical doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and other health workers.

“For me it is unfortunate that in some hospitals just like I discovered here that they are only interested in receiving salaries instead of thinking a better way to improve their working place as well as render good service to the people.

“I want to inform the public that next year our Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Team will close down both Government owned and Private healthcare facilities that falls below standard.

“Any government owned facilities that will be closed down, health workers from that facility are to face serious sanctions.

Dr. Obidike who concluded his unannounced visit at the Enugwu-Ukwu General hospital also expressed displeasure for not meeting a single doctor on duty at the hospital.

The commissioner vowed to continue his unannounced visit across all the state owned facilities.
