Anambra Health Ministry Celebrates International Day Of Families With Disabled

Anambra State ministry of health in partnership with World Health Organisation,WHO, and ministry of women and social welfare,hosted families, disabled men and women in celebrating this year’s International Day Of Families in Awka, the state capital.
The commissioner for health, Dr. Afam Obidike in his address, emphasized that families must get it right by Inculcating positive characters in their members and learn to accommodate the disabled ones in their homes and the society at large without discrimination. He appreciated women and encouraged parents to always groom their children together for a a better society.
On her part, the wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo affirmed that family is everything. She stated that absence of basic family values in most homes in the country, gave rise to drug abuse, cultism, child abuse, domestic violence and other anomalies in the society.
According to Nonye, ” we build the society from the family, mothers are neglecting their jobs as mother’s, that is why the society is polluted with criminals, prostitutes,drug addicts, cultists and other ills.”
“Parents should stop sending out their children as maids at tender age as they also deserve to be loved and nurtured adequately.” She also blamed the male folk for dodging their responsibilities in the home, reminded them that building a home is the joint effort both parents.She lauded mothers and pleaded with them to pay more attention to their families than their phones.
Mrs Soludo also explained the importance of healthy living among families, insisting that a family that sticks to the rules of hygiene and healthy life can add positively to the growth of their immediate environment.
She also used the platform to appeal to women to take part in the ongoing free cervical cancer screening and treatment exercise in Anambra State, free rotavirus vaccination and oral cleft treatment for children.
Speaking earlier at the event, the family planning cordinator, Anambra ministry of health,Mrs Amara Ezeokenwa stated that family planning is the bedrock of every family.She encouraged parents to embrace family planning for a healthier society.
“The international day of families aims to encourage governments, organisations and communities to develop and implement policies that support families.”
Appreciating the members of the disability community, Mrs Ify Obinabo urged them never to feel inferior before others. She called on Nigerians to always accommodate and support the disabled especially those that believe that there is ability in disability.
The WHO representative sued for peace in waring homes. The disabled participants and families received gift items from Mrs Soludo.
