The Nigeria Immigration Service has decorated 109 officers from the Anambra State Command.

They were celebrated during a decoration ceremony held at the Command headquarters in Awka, the state capital.

Comptroller Godwin Nzeribe expressed his delight in welcoming everyone to the occasion for the newly promoted officers.

“Today, we honor the achievements of our officers who have been elevated as part of the 2024 promotion exercise

“This initiative, sanctioned by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board (CDCFIB), benefits a diverse range of ranks, including seven in the Comptrollers Cadre, seventy in the Superintendent Cadre, twelve in the Inspectorate Cadre, and twenty in the Immigration Assistant Cadre.”

Nzeribe remarked that this year’s significant number of promotions is a positive shift from previous narratives of stagnation within the service. “On behalf of our newly promoted officers, I commend the Honourable Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, for recognizing the merit of these officers,” he said.

He urged the promoted officers to embrace their new responsibilities with dedication, highlighting that the promotion signifies both an honor and a new challenge to improve service delivery. “I encourage those who were not promoted to remain patient and hopeful for future opportunities,” he added.

DSI Onyinye Anene, the Command’s Public Relations Officer and a recent appointee, delivered the opening remarks. She explained that earlier this year, eligible personnel were mobilized nationwide for promotion examinations. “Today, we gather to witness the decoration of 109 officers from Anambra State Command, a reflection of the overall 13,977 promotions within the NIS this year,” she said.

Anene also emphasized the collective responsibility that comes with their new ranks, urging the officers to reflect on their worthiness as they progress in their careers.

In a goodwill message, Usifo Joseph, Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service Anambra State Command, congratulated the officers and acknowledged the significance of the day.

In closing, Deputy Comptroller E.C. Okonkwo delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues. “I express our gratitude to the CDCFIB for this unprecedented number of promotions. We are committed to honoring the trust placed in us by the service and the community.”
