Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) have asked President Tinubu, the state governors including Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to shelf capital projects for at least six months and tackle hunger and insecurity in the country.
This was contained in a communique made available to Pressmen in Awka the capital of Anambra State.
The lawmakers stated that they align with the leader of the party, Mr Peter Obi, to drum support for security and the welfare of the people above any other considerations.
The LP legislators, said on their part, they would forfeit and commit their basic salaries for six months running for the feeding and care of the people of the state.
While speaking, the member representing Awka South 1 constituency, Henry Mbachu said the move had no political coloration.
“Every reasonable and responsible government must first secure lives before talking about infrastructure because someone must be alive and secured before any other thing else.
“Our party’s ideology is for the welfare of the masses. Regrettably, that sole ideology has been tampered with. There is hunger in the land. When people call us, they make several demands which are genuine.
“Yet, we are here blowing grammar and making bogus policies and data when the masses are dying of hunger and insecurity. That’s what we want the government to focus on.
“This is not politics. We are since done with elections. Besides, hunger doesn’t know which party you belong to. Everyone is affected. I am sure our colleagues are also planning on what to do.
“We want the government to focus on food and insecurity within the next six months while we continue with other sectors”.
On the modalities the salaries would be disbursed, Mbachu said the decision would be taken in due course.
All the Anambra State LP legislators endorsed the communique.
