The Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Mr. Shedrack Azubuike, has donated modern medical equipment to 18 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) within the council area to enhance access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony on Saturday, Azubuike said the initiative aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s broader vision to strengthen the healthcare system across the state.

“This distribution is not just about providing equipment, it’s about saving lives, reducing referral times, and improving health outcomes. It will empower our PHCs to function more effectively and help combat maternal and infant mortality, which remains a priority for the state government,” he said.

Items distributed include anti-shock garments, baby cots, fetoscopes, pulse oximeters, delivery sets, suction machines, hospital beds, drip stands, MUAC tapes, ward screens, and other essential medical supplies aimed at improving diagnostic and treatment capabilities in rural clinics.

Mrs. Nneka Ibeh, a community health extension worker who spoke on behalf of other health personnel, confirmed that all 18 PHCs in Orumba South received the equipment. She expressed appreciation to the local government chairman, assuring that the equipment would be put to effective use to serve the healthcare needs of the communities.

In a related development, Mr. Azubuike also awarded N1 million each to two young entrepreneurs in the area to support their business initiatives and promote youth-led innovation.

“This is more than financial support, it’s an investment in the future of Orumba South. We are placing our confidence in the creativity and determination of our young people, who are key to local economic growth,” Azubuike stated.

The beneficiaries, Mr. Sunday Ezulike and Mr. Arinze Eze, expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to utilize the funds judiciously to expand their ventures and give back to the community.
