The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has pledged to undertake grassroots mobilization and reconciliation efforts aimed at repositioning the party for a successful challenge against Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming 2025 gubernatorial election.
The party’s State Chairman, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, made this commitment during the PDP Unity Gala. The event also served as a valedictory ceremony for the outgoing Caretaker Committee, a reception for the newly elected state executives, and a strategic planning meeting held in Awka, the state capital.
During his address, Chidebe emphasized the importance of empowering the party’s ward and local government executives for the tasks ahead.
He announced the formation of several committees designed to facilitate member reconciliation, build public confidence, mobilize resources, and strategize for victory in the 2025 and 2027 general elections.
“Under my leadership, the PDP will prioritize the welfare of its members through celebrations, rewards, and recognitions for distinguished and loyal supporters, fostering unity and progress within the party,” Chidebe stated.
“To accomplish our agenda, we will establish key committees, including the Reconciliation and Unity Committee, Strategic Mobilization and Grassroots Engagement Committee, Fundraising and Finance Committee, Electoral Strategy and Planning Committee, and Communications and Publicity Committee,” he added.
Looking towards the future, Chidebe reiterated the party’s commitment to strengthening local units and energizing membership participation. He pledged to create platforms that actively engage youth, recognizing their crucial role in advancing the PDP’s vision.
“I am dedicated to reinforcing our Elders Council and maintaining regular consultations with Board of Trustees members on significant policies. Their wisdom and experience are invaluable assets for our party’s success. By fostering mentorship between our elders and emerging leaders, we strive to cultivate a unified party geared towards future achievements,” he concluded.
Party unity
The former State Chairman Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu also addressed the attendees. He asserted that the era of supporting opposition parties to undermine PDP candidates in Anambra elections has come to an end.
He expressed hope that all stakeholders would unite behind the new leadership and potential candidates for the 2025 elections.
Additionally, the former Caretaker Chairman Chigozie Igwe called on the new executive members to operate in peace and harmony. He urged candidates who lost in last month’s elections to support the new leadership to reshape the party and move beyond past internal conflicts.
In an interview, the Anambra State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Obumneme Nnoli, expressed gratitude to party loyalists for their support, emphasizing the opportunity to restore the PDP’s fortunes in the near future.
