Anambra state police operatives on Tuesday rescued unhurt 15 corps members abducted by unknown gunmen in Imo state.
They were rescued in Anambra State.
The 15 corps members are from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre, Local Government Area of Imo state.
Anambra State Governor Soludo had in his address to the people of the state assured that his government was hell-bent on reclaiming the State from the siege of unknown gunmen.
The Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said that the corps members were abducted along Isseke, Ihiala road, Anambra state.
In a statement, Tochukwu said, “Anambra State Police Operatives by 11:15 am today, 14/2/2023 responding to a distress call along Isseke, Ihiala road rescued unhurt fifteen abducted corps members from NYSC Orientation Camp Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre, LGA, Imo state.
“Information reveals, that the corps members, finished their three weeks orientation programme and were en- route to Lagos State before their vehicle was intercepted at total junction Ihiala, by unidentified armed men in an unmarked white Toyota Hilux.
“Their vehicle was diverted to Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway where the gunmen kept them hostage.
“The armed men on noticing they were being followed by Police Operatives zoomed off in a Toyota Hiace bus with Registration Number: EPE 353 YE conveying the Corpers.
“Meanwhile, the corps members were debriefed by police operatives and necessary arrangements have been perfected to convey them back to their destinations”.
Tochukwu said further developments will be communicated to the public in due cause.
