The Anambra State Police Command has made a notable breakthrough by dismantling a notorious criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.
During the raid, 19 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered, marking a crucial victory in the fight against criminal activities in the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the details of the operation in a press release issued on Wednesday.
The joint security operation, led by the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the military, civil defence, and Anambra vigilante operatives, took place on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
Offering insights into the operation, Ikenga stated, “In the early hours of December 24, 2024, a joint security operation led by the Nigeria Police Force and comprising the military, civil defence, and Anambra vigilante operatives successfully dismantled a criminal camp located in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.”
Ikenga emphasised, “The operation resulted in the destruction of several makeshift structures within the camp, the recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices, and inflicted significant injuries on fleeing suspects.”

The operation’s success was attributed to credible intelligence gathered about the criminal gang’s activities and information obtained from suspects arrested during ongoing police operations across the state.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort, Anambra’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, commended the synergy among security agencies and emphasised the crucial role of public vigilance in maintaining safety during and beyond the festive season.
In a directive to enhance the crackdown on criminal elements, CP Itam urged all owners of private and public hospitals to promptly report any individuals seeking medical treatment for bullet wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station.
Reiterating the commitment to ensuring public safety, the Anambra State Police Command affirmed its dedication to sustaining security dominance through continuous patrols and targeted operations to guarantee a peaceful Yuletide season.
