Anambra Polytechnic Holds Conference on Innovation for Sustainability

Anambra State Polytechnic (ANSPOLY), Mgbakwu, recently hosted a conference aimed at promoting innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development in today’s digital era.
The Acting Rector of ANSPOLY, Dr. Njideka Chiekezie, highlighted the significance of educational conferences in advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration during the academic gathering.
This message resonated strongly at the 3rd International Multi-Disciplinary Academic Conference held at ANSPOLY.
Dr. Chiekezie shared an insightful overview of the institution’s journey, emphasising its transformation from a School of Agriculture in Igbariam to Anambra’s only state polytechnic.
“Established under the Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu Law of 2017, ANSPOLY aims to be a leading institution with a strong academic foundation that emphasises technological skills, moral values, and entrepreneurial spirit among its students.”
The conference, themed “Innovation for Sustainable Development in a Digital Era,” explored the intricate relationship between innovation, sustainability, and digital technologies in fostering development.
Dr. Chiekezie expressed her gratitude to the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, keynote speakers, presenters, sponsors, partners, and the organising committee, acknowledging their roles in making the event successful.
Highlighting the conference’s core objectives, she underscored the value of knowledge sharing, research dissemination, networking, and capacity-building as critical for fostering active engagement and collective knowledge creation among participants.
Dr. Chiekezie also noted the much-anticipated award ceremony, which honoured 16 individuals for their remarkable contributions to various fields. She assured attendees that their participation would be deeply rewarding and wished everyone safe travels at the conference’s conclusion.
The lead presenter, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, delivered valuable insights via a virtual presentation. He argued that innovation in Southeast Nigeria is increasingly recognised as essential for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence among diverse populations. He highlighted a surge in innovative solutions targeting pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges, from renewable energy projects to digital entrepreneurship initiatives.
Emphasising sustainable agriculture, he showcased how local farmers are integrating agroecological practices and modern technology to enhance productivity while conserving the environment. “This approach not only promotes long-term sustainability but also bolsters community resilience and mitigates conflicts over dwindling resources.”

Ms. Chinwe Okoli, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, through her representative Anajemba Ike, delivered a compelling presentation focusing on innovation’s role in addressing contemporary societal challenges. She emphasised how the digital age can drive sustainable development through inclusive digital infrastructure, education, capacity-building, public-private partnerships, and regulatory frameworks that support innovative efforts.
The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Uzondu Scholastica, expressed appreciation to the guests and the organising team. She remarked that the conference theme reflected a collective commitment to discovering innovative solutions to benefit businesses, communities, and the broader world. Dr. Ekene Nwankwo, Chairman of Publicity and Fundraising, also appreciated the guests for attending the three-day conference, which concluded on Thursday
The event featured interactive sessions, with notable contributions from experts such as Professor Longe Olumide, Vice Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Lagos, and Professor Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The award ceremony recognised 16 deserving individuals, including key government officials and community leaders, for their outstanding contributions to academia and public service.
The International Multi-Disciplinary Academic Conference illustrated ANSPOLY’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable development in today’s digital landscape. The event fostered meaningful dialogue, idea exchange, and collaborative opportunities among scholars, researchers, and industry experts, advancing ANSPOLY’s mission to equip students for thriving in a rapidly transforming technological world.
