Anambra State: Agency, Association seek partnership to combat Erosion

The Anambra State Erosion and Watershed Climate Change Agency (ANSEWCCA) is seeking partnership with the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) to strengthen the fight against environmental hazards in the state.

The ANSEWCCA declared its partnership interest while presenting its articulated measures to mitigate erosion before the ASATU General Assembly in Awka, the state capital.
The Anambra State Erosion and Watershed Climate Change Agency (ANSEWCCA) was set up by the present administration to look into erosion menace in the state as well as draw public attention to the need to adopt environment-friendly practices in order to curb the present climate challenges.

 

The delegation, led by the Project Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of ANSEWCCA, Professor Phil Ogbonnaya-Eze, said that they target to partner wuth Presidents General to spread the message on erosion and its management to every nook and cranny of the state.

 

While regretting the enormous damage already caused by climate change in Nigeria, especially in the south-east geopolitical zone, Professor Ogbonnaya-Eze called on the people to take charge of their environments and always adhere to environmental laws.
He noted that each community in Anambra state will have an erosion committee in order to be in the vanguard of environmental protection.
“The ASATU will equally set up a steering committee on erosion-control that will work with them directly in order to achieve Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra’s environment cleaner, greener and planned,” he added.

 

Welcoming the delegation, the National President of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, who commended the initiative of the agency, said that with their plans to collaborate with the Presidents-General, communities would be properly engaged and promised necessary support and collaboration.
