Anambra State Assembly Confirms Appointment Of Two Commissioners

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointments of Honourable Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche and Mr. Izuchukwu Okafor as Commissioners designate in the state.

The House confirmed their appointments by Governor Chukwuma Soludo during plenary following the report of its committee on Screening and Election Matters presented by the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker House of the House, Honourable Chukwuma Okoye which found them suitably qualified to serve as commissioners in Anambra State Government.

Confirmation of their appointments

Speaker of the House, honourable Somtochukwu Udeze read out the confirmation of their appointments while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.

Presenting a vote of thanks, Honourable Nkemdiche who is the immediate past member that represented Onitsha South Two Constituency appreciated the House for confirming their appointments assuring that they will serve Anambra State with everything in them to guarantee the realization of Governor Soludo’s vision for Anambra State.

Also at the plenary, the house passed another resolution urging Governor Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Transport and the Managing Director of Anambra Road Transport Management Agency to commence full implementation of traffic laws to regulate the activities of commercial drivers in Onitsha and other urban areas of the state.

Urgent public importance

The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Ogbaru One Constituency, Honourable Noble Igwe who lamented that flagrant disrespect of traffic regulations by commercial bus drivers who have continued to abuse the extant regulations on highways.

He maintained that if proper orientation and and necessary actions were taken to reprimand them by the relevant authorities, the activities of the commercial bus drivers would be put to check.

Speaker of the House, honourable Udeze also called on the relevant authorities to carry out the resolution of the House to make the areas safe for motorists.
