“This initiative aims to transform Anambra into a premier tourism destination, moving it beyond its current perception as merely a transit point,’ Mefor stated.

During a visit to participants of a film training program at Anawood Film Village in Awka, Dr. Law Mefor underscored the pivotal role of entertainment and filmmaking in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s strategic agenda. Joined by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, and the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, Dr. Mefor stressed the importance of Anambra reclaiming its historic position in Nigeria’s film industry.

“Your mission is not just about learning; it’s a journey of self-discovery,” Dr. Mefor stated. “You are tasked with repositioning Anambra within Nollywood, as Governor Soludo envisions a future where Anambra thrive—not only as a regional hub but as a destination that attracts visitors from around the world.”

He noted with concern that Anambra’s current status resembles that of a “departure lounge,” where residents primarily associate the state with funerals, weddings, and holiday visits. “This perception needs to change. Anambra should be a place where people actively plan to visit for reasons beyond the familiar,” he asserted.

Dr. Mefor praised Anawood as a vital component of the governor’s vision, encouraging participants to fully embrace the opportunities available to them. “You have the foundation, a supportive government, and a proactive leader who is laying the groundwork for a vibrant entertainment industry. Fame and fortune await those with the perseverance to pursue them,” he advised.

The state capital Commissioner for Youth Development, in a show of unity and shared purpose, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, reiterated the governor’s proactive approach to youth engagement, commending the Comrade Onyenji for his commitment to this vision.

Comrade Onyenji, who oversees cultural initiatives, emphasized the long-term objective of nurturing talent within the film industry, stating, “We aim to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers who will elevate both Anambra and Nigeria on the world stage.”

Mrs. Chinyere Ozoh, Principal of Anawood Film Village and its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, expressed her gratitude for the commissioners’ visit, thanking Governor Soludo for his dedicated interest in bolstering the film sector in Anambra.
