Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo has reiterated the state government’s commitment in ensuring that every girl child in the state is physical and mental protected.
She stated this in Awka to mark the 2022 international day of the girl child commemorated.
Speaking on the significance of the day, Mrs Obinabo noted that the day raises awareness on issues girls face internationally, such as education, nutrition, child marriage, legal rights and medical rights.
She went further to list some of the things the state government has done to ensure healthy environment for every girl child in the state to include, sensitization of the public on the rights of the girl child, establishment of a designated specialized magistrate court in Awka where children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases receive speedy justice delivery among other numerous things.
With the theme “Our Time is Now, Our Rights, Our Future” the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, urged every girl child in the state and Nigeria at large to stand strong despite the challenges they face in order not to lose their self-esteem and to also take the opportunities made available by the government in order to have a great future.
