Anambra state commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has taken a proactive step in addressing issues related to cattle grazing by reinstating the Cattle Menace Committee within the Command.
The decision to revive the committee was made after a courtesy visit by the Hausa/Fulani community to the Commissioner’s office.
In a statement released by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, it was revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reinstated the Cattle Menace Committee within the Command to address pressing issues such as crop destruction, road accidents involving stray cattle, and conflicts between herders and local communities.
During a meeting with representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community, CP Orutugu expressed the importance of reviving the committee as part of proactive measures to promote peaceful coexistence and prevent security threats arising from clashes between herders and farmers.
The Commissioner reassured the people of Anambra that his leadership is committed to taking strategic steps to ensure the security and order of the state. He emphasized that the Cattle Menace Committee will play a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue, conflict resolution, and managing herder-related matters effectively.
“The meeting emphasized the police’s dedication to fostering unity among all communities in Anambra State, while upholding law and order,” the statement concluded.
