Anambra State Executive Council Advances Welfare And Infrastructure Initiatives

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), in its 37th meeting received a report from a fact-finding team established by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to assess the situation involving Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme, a victim of brutality by contractors working for the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA). Mr. Akaneme is currently hospitalized in Enugu State.

 

The state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor who disclosed this in a statement, stated that in response to the findings, the Council pledged to cover his medical expenses and expressed condolences to his family, offering prayers for his swift recovery.

 

Dr. Mefor highlighted the recognition awarded to Anambra at the recently concluded National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) in Abuja.

 

The event, which took place from November 22 to 30, 2024, celebrated Anambra State as the most creative cultural troupe, adding to the growing array of accolades earned under Governor Soludo’s administration over the past 32 months.

 

According to Mefor, the Council also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Mr. Mark Okoye as the Managing Director/CEO of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC), commending Governor Soludo for facilitating this appointment. Prior to this role, Mr. Okoye served as the Managing Director of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA).

 

The Commissioner added that as part of the state’s preparations for the forthcoming Yuletide season, the Council instructed relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that all roads are not only easily navigable but also adorned with festive decorations.

 

Given the seasonal rise in airborne illnesses during the harmattan, the Council urged both its members and the general public to prioritize health and wellness.

 

Award of Road Contracts

The 37th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) also considered and awarded the following Road contracts aimed at ensuring a memorable Christmas for Ndi Anambra:

The Council noted that many roads awarded at the last EXCO meeting, such as New Tarzan Road and the three roads whose contracts were revoked and re-awarded, have not been reported.
The 3.75 km Igwe Orizu Road Nnewi construction was awarded at the sum of N2.86 billion to New Idea Construction Company Ltd, and 30% mobilisation is to be paid immediately with the completion timeline of six months.
The 10.8 km Nkwor Nnewi to Nkwor Oraifite was awarded to Infratech Construction Ltd at the sum of N7.2 billion, with a 12 months completion timeline.”

 

Mefor added that the Council also awarded the 4.922 km Oraukwu-Abatete-Nimo bypass in Idemili North to GMG Global Construction and Development Company Ltd for N4.7 billion, with an expected delivery date of six months from the date of mobilization.
