The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has advocated unity and understanding among Christians of different denominations, to achieve a shared vision and mission.
Governor Soludo made the call when he received in audience, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic, Most Reverend Jude Thaddeus Okolo at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Awka, the state capital.
This was made known in a statement released by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime.
He highlighted the role of Christians in promoting peace and justice in the world, particularly amid the growing political and social tensions.
The Govenor stressing on the need to work together in solidarity, compassion, and respect, to promote reconciliation and healing in communities and the world.
Governor Soludo added that promoting ecumenism requires a commitment to learning about and respecting the various denominations in Christendom.
He noted that each denomination has its unique history, theology, and practices, which can enrich and broaden understanding of the Christian faith, acknowledging that through celebrating the differences, unity and solidarity can be strengthened.
Responding, the Most Rev. Okolo said that there are various ways to promote ecumenism, including engaging in interfaith dialogue and collaboration, where different religious traditions come together to share their experiences, beliefs, and values.
This he said helps build bridges of understanding and promote mutual respect and tolerance.
Rev Okolo said that supporting initiatives that bring together Christian denominations in worship, study, and service is another way.
He said that “in promoting ecumenism, everyone is called upon to embody the values of love, compassion, and service that are central to the Christian faith so I urge people to take up the call for unity and understanding and work together towards a shared vision of a better world for all.”
Most Rev. Okolo also commended Governor Soludo on his giant strides in education reforms and other people-oriented programmes his administration is executing across the state.
