The conference attracted experts and stakeholders from the mining and geosciences industry, with discussions centered on innovation as a vital component for industry advancement.

At this year’s event, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, was conferred with an Award of Excellence for his significant contributions to the reform of the state’s mining and gas sector.

The award was received on his behalf by Professor Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Mele Kolo Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), delivered a keynote address emphasizing the geosciences sector’s critical role in national development and economic stability.

He stressed the need for innovative solutions to transform the oil and gas sectors, especially in light of fluctuating global oil prices and the requirement for energy security.

Engr. Dele Ayanleke, President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, echoed the importance of innovation in improving operational efficiency and environmental sustainability within the mining sector.

He called for a cohesive approach to address the issues of infrastructure and human capacity development, while also lamenting the growing concerns over government investment in the sector being tied to corrupt practices.

In a goodwill message, Mr. Johnbosco Uche, President of the Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), reiterated the association’s commitment to advancing its members’ knowledge in oil and gas exploration and development, highlighting the significance of a strong partnership between NAPE and NMGS for human capital development.

The Director General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency, Prof. Olusegun O. Ige, noted that the conference serves as a platform for sharing ideas conducive to investment, job creation, and industrial growth.

He commended the Anambra State government for its establishment of the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Agency, which is instrumental in advancing the sector.
