The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday, congratulated Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, on his 91st Birthday Celebration.

Governor Soludo demonstrated his firm belief in showing gratitude to individuals with noble deeds during their lifetime, which also gives credence to his call for Befitting Living ideology, as the governor also commissioned the Emeka and Bunmi Anyaoku Foundation Center, built by Anyaoku and his wife in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, the home town of Chief Anyaoku.

Speaking at the event as the special guest, Governor Soludo said, “The Anyaoku Foundation Center signifies progress for the Anambra people. Aside library of books and materials, including some of the personal papers of Chief Anyaoku, the center also houses a museum that displays cultural artifacts from Anambra, Nigeria, and the multi-racial Commonwealth countries.

“As a hero who committed to making Nigeria a functional society, and presented Anambra to the Global map, he equally contributed his quota to making Nigeria and Anambra a better place. Commissioning of the Anyaoku Foundation Center is timely and a way of celebrating a true hero.

“This event marks a significant step in preserving Chief Anyaoku’s legacy and contributing to the educational and cultural advancement of Anambra State.”

Earlier, the Director of the Center, Miss Oluchi Nguzoro, explained the Foundation’s comprehensive offerings, including a museum, library, archives, cultural displays, and exhibitions. She emphasised that these offerings will promote literacy and environmental awareness.

Presenting his vote of thanks, Chief Anyaoku expressed gratitude to God for giving him 91 years on earth and escaping absent-mindedness syndrome associated with old age.

Emeka Anyaoku acknowledged the centre’s role in fulfilling a shared dream with his wife to nurture a love of reading and learning within the community.

Chief Emeka Anyaoku is an elder statement, a diplomat, and former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, who contributed immensely to the development of the state and Nigeria at large.
