Anambra State Imposes Movement Restrictions for LG Election

The Anambra State government has announced a restriction of movement across the state for the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024.

According to a press statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the restriction will be in effect from 8 am to 4 pm local time on Saturday.

Dr. Mefor emphasized that the measure is aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful local government election in the state.

He stated, “Ndi Anambra are hereby informed that there will be a restriction of movement throughout Anambra State on Saturday, 28th September 2024, from 8 am to 4 pm, as requested by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission.

“The restriction order is essential to guarantee a peaceful and smooth exercise during the Anambra State Local Government Council Election,” he said.

Dr. Mefor specified that individuals exempt from the restriction include those on election duties and essential services such as ANSIEC officials, electoral observers, accredited journalists, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, among others.

He urged the public to comply fully with the order in the interest of maintaining peace and stability, cautioning that failure to do so could result in legal consequences.

This move by the Anambra State government reflects its commitment to ensuring a successful and orderly local government election process in the state.
